Staycation

Some of us wish for a six month holiday twice a year (ha!) but, it is just not possible. Sometimes you need a break from your daily routine just to shut down and relax. A day or two is usually good enough to relax and recharge.

I’m sure you’ve all heard of the concept of a “staycation”. This is when you go on holiday, usually a weekend getaway, in your own country or town. It is a great way of enjoying yourself without the hassle of air travel, connections or a visa. You just pack your bags and take a drive to a hotel or resort.

I prefer travelling alone with my husband so we can have time to ourselves away from the kids. As much as we both love our little munchkins beyond what words can express, anyone with kids between ages 0 – 3 will understand why we sometimes look forward to “The Escape”! Hehehe…

Recently we went for a staycation at Al Raha Beach Hotel in Abu Dhabi. It had recently been refurbished and we were keen to experience for ourselves what all the rave reviews were about. We took our last born, Lina, because she was still breastfeeding.

Al Raha Beach Hotel is an hour drive from my home in Dubai. For someone who does not like long drives this was the closest beach hotels outside of Dubai which is one of the reasons we went. I must admit I had a really excellent time there! We were welcomed by friendly staff, the room was spacious, tidy and very tastefully decorated. Lina had a ball crawling around on the emperor sized bed and splashing around in the huge tub.

When we went outside we enjoyed the huge swimming pool and, as a bonus, the food was to die for. Yum yum yummy!

When the weekend was over, it was time to leave and the feeling I had can best be compared to saying goodbye to a dear one. I am certainly looking forward to going back again soon.

Folks, please try the staycation as a trouble and stress free way to holiday. We all live in beautiful countries where we don’t have to travel outside borders or spend a lot of money to enjoy.

Until then take time out of your daily routine to appreciate the simple things in life, such as family, good friendships and health.
